This insurance covers the University, its officers and certain other persons and organisations (the Insured ) affiliated to the University against Loss arising from any claim in respect of civil liability for breach of duty owed in a professional capacity first made against the Insured during the period of Insurance.
Whilst this coverage is obtained by the University to insure against the risk of any claims made against the University (including its officers ) for breach of professional duty, staff should be refer to MOPP Policy A/7.1.1 for guidance on the level to which the University will indemnify staff should claims be made against them.
It is imperative that Accounting Services be advised immediately:
- upon indication or advice of any claim against the University or an individual.
- upon receipt of notice from any party of a claim or of an intention to make a claim against the University or any individual.
- following the occurrence or discovery of any circumstance which may later give rise to a claim or claims.
The insurers will normally appoint their own solicitors to make immediate contact with a person nominated by QUT to assess the potential liability. All future activity must then be channelled through the Insurance company's lawyers.
