Students are insured under a number of different policies while undertaking work experience or while they are on field trips relating to their course.
For the purposes of clarification of coverage, work experience is categorised as follows:
- Compulsory Work Experience undertaken as part of a course of study
- Work experience undertaken as part of the QUT "Career Mentor" scheme
- Voluntary work experience undertaken by students which is not a formal part of their course. Note: this includes Work experience undertaken as part of QUT's "Work Ready" scheme
Work experience in Categories 1 and 2 are covered by the University's Personal Accident, Professional Indemnity and Public Liability policies.
For these categories, a letter must be sent by QUT to the employer taking the student for work experience. (Template attached )
Students participating in work experience or on field trips of their own volition (Category 3) are only covered by the University’s Personal Accident policy.
